National Quarter Horse Championship

13/07/2026
Campeonato Nacional do Quarto de Milha

The National Quarter Horse Championship is Brazil's premier equestrian competition dedicated exclusively to the Quarter Horse breed. Organized annually by the Brazilian Quarter Horse Breeders Association (ABQM), this major event brings together thousands of horses, riders, and breeders to compete for titles across a wide range of sporting and technical disciplines.

Event Highlights: Competitions cover more than 18 disciplines that test the animal's versatility, speed, strength, and intelligence. These include timed events (such as Barrel Racing and Pole Bending) and technical or working events (such as Team Roping, Reining, Vaquejada, and Cutting).

Participants and Prize Money: Each edition features significant prize purses and attracts thousands of entries from breeding operations across the country.

Location: The event boasts an impressive setup, and the recent edition was hosted at the Clibas de Almeida Prado Exhibition Grounds in Araçatuba (SP), a traditional hub for equestrian events in the interior of São Paulo state.

The 49th National Quarter Horse Championship enters a new phase on Wednesday with the start of competitions in three of the breed's traditional disciplines. Starting at 8:00 AM, competitors from across Brazil will take to the arena for Western Pleasure, Heading (Team Roping), and Ranch Sorting events, which will unfold across various arenas at the Clibas de Almeida Prado Exhibition Park in Araçatuba (SP).

Western Pleasure performances begin in the main arena; this discipline evaluates the quality of the horse's gaits, handling, and behavior, rewarding animals that are comfortable to ride and demonstrate natural movement during the competition.

Meanwhile, the Ram Arena hosts the first Heading competitions?one of the most traditional disciplines in the national equestrian sector?bringing together horse-and-rider pairs that demonstrate precision, speed, and perfect synchronization.

At the Guabi Arena, the spotlight will be on Ranch Sorting?a competition that showcases the skill of horse-and-rider teams in handling cattle, requiring strategy, communication, and versatility to correctly separate the animals as a team.

The 49th National Championship schedule continues throughout the day, bringing together competitors from a wide range of Quarter Horse disciplines. The full event schedule is available on the official website of the Brazilian Quarter Horse Breeders Association (ABQM).

For those unable to attend in person, all competitions are being broadcast live on the official ABQM YouTube channel.

Quarter Horse National Championship Open to the Public

Admission to the 49th Quarter Horse National Championship is free for the public, subject to prior registration on the ABQM website. Organizers invite visitors to participate in a charitable initiative by voluntarily donating 1 kg of non-perishable food.

Donations will go to local charitable organizations, reinforcing the event's social commitment. Organizers emphasize that the donation is optional and is not a requirement for entry to the National Championship.

Considered the premier event for the Quarter Horse breed in Brazil, the National Championship brings together thousands of competitors, breeders, and horse enthusiasts for a packed schedule of sporting, technical, and commercial activities, cementing Araçatuba?s status as the Quarter Horse capital during the competition.
